No doubt the invention of the laser pointer is one of the finest inventuions of scientific history of the mankind. But we must know the theoretical aspect of the laser pointer and how it progressed in the path of its long journey. The basic theory on which the laser pointer is based first published in the year 1958. The researchers at the Bell Laboratory first developed it. As far history says the first laser was built at Hughes aircraft. Inn this case a piece of ruby was used as the medium lasing. The source of energy was light and mirrors were used as resonator.

The first semi-conductor laser was invented in the year 1962. The semiconductor materials that are used in some transistors were used in it and in this case the lasing medium was integrated circuit. This semiconductor laser used Dc electricity current. This semiconductor laser released infrared radiation of non-visible nature. But at present moment all the semiconductor lasers have the ability to produce green, blue and violet in color. Such semiconductor lasers are quite expensive. We also know all thee laser pointers as semiconductor diode. They are called so because they are one type of semiconductor diode. The diode helps to pass electricity quite easily.

When the electricity passed both the light emitting and laser diodes produce light. The semiconductor laser became least expensive and they required less amount of energy. At present the semi conductor laser is so small in size that, even it is smaller than a blood cell. The diodes of the laser pointer are well protected against the environment by using a case of plastic. Most of the present semiconductor laser devises are used on a board of circuit. The process further developed and gradually marched towards the formation of laser. The first laser pointer cost few hundred dollars. But the demand for the laser increased fast. As a result method of fabrication was devised. Therefore the price of laser pointer came down.
